Make it Modern Blog Tour

Hello lovely friends

Today is my stop on the Make it Modern blog tour by Riley Blake Designs and boy did I have some fun with this one. I have chosen to use Confetti Cottons Solids for this make although I was pretty torn between all the amazing basics in the Riley Blake range to be honest.

As a designer I don’t often find the time to create using patterns not my own due to time constraints and constant deadlines so it was a huge amount of joy I found myself with some free time and spare fabric over the Easter Long Weekend. I knew immediately I wanted to make cushions using Folk Blooms by Pen and Paper Patterns. Guys this is such a great pattern and the flowers came together so easily.

I was lucky to have some solids here that I am using for another upcoming project and I automatically loved the idea of adding them to my lounge room for winter – life is too short to be serious and these definitely bring the fun to my room. The cream throw will be replaced with a fun new quilt over the coming weeks and i can not WAIT to share.I am definitely a sucker for this color palette and the moment. For those playing along at home I used Riley White, Riley Navy, Riley Gray and Butterscotch.

I wasn’t long into taking photos when Miss Daisy decided to make an appearance for the camera. Like the supermodel she is she commands the camera, she is also extremely hard to get rid of once she decides she is taking part lol.  I decided it was in my best interests just to go with it and I am so happy I did – the photos are gorgeous!

I cant wait to curl up with her in this very spot on the weekend and have a nap – it is our favourite weekend thing to do.

To make the cushions I created the folk bloom block as per the pattern then sashed in the background colour, creating a frame from the centre fabric for interest. The cushions are big enough to fit 20″ duck down inserts and I used my favourites from Ikea. I backed the cushion in a gorgeous navy print and used my hidden zip tutorial to finish it off. All in all the 3 cushions were made across 2 days which is about the length of my attention span these days.

Seriously is she not the most beautiful dog in the world – we are so lucky she is in our lives.

I really am so happy with these cushions think they will be a fun statement in the room for the next few months.

Thank you for joining me on the tour, I hope it provided a dose of modern inspiration.

Sarah xx
