Playing with Dream – and introducing the Rainbow Busy Book Pattern

I think if any week was a good week for rainbows I think this was it. It is challenging here in Australia with so many of my friends and family locked down in an effort to get Covid under control again. In South Australia we have dodged many bullets but it seems the sneaky bugger has snuck in and now we are working quickly to ensure it doesn’t spread. How lucky we are to live in a progressive system that is so intent on making the big decisions!

With all the internal thoughts raging it was brilliant to sit down and focus on Dream – the latest collection from Kristy Lea of Quiet Play. Released by Riley Blake Designs it features bold colours and images with a stunning rainbow theme. I knew straight away I needed to carry the rainbow vision out and so my next Busy Book Pattern was born!

The Rainbow Busy Book features 14 fun pages that build a rainbow with each turn of the page. I decided to go all out with my fabric selections and have a whole lot of fun. I used all the basic prints for my internal pages and then built the rainbow and cut the wording from wool felt.

Wouldn’t this make a gorgeous baby shower or first birthday gift? I know my kids loved their handmade cloth books for years and years and they have been safely tucked away for when I am blessed with grandchildren in the very very very distant future.

The book features a tab closure and I couldn’t resist fussy cutting that sweet little rainbow to add some extra detail.

I couldn’t resist upping the riot of colour and creating this fun patchwork quilt for my photo shoot. I used all the main prints in this one and I have big exciting plans for a collaboration for it so stay tuned.

And of course – a famous quilt swirl just because I can.

And in true Adelaide Winter form, the photo shoot ended as abruptly as it started due to rain, lots and lots of rain. But fortunately it did nothing to dampen the gorgeous colours in front of me. I spent a few minutes hoping the sky would offer up a rainbow as my final backdrop but it was not to be. I have the book ready though for if one should appear!

You can purchase the Rainbow busy book pattern from my shop right here. Or Etsy is ready and waiting if you prefer.

And that is a wrap from my friends. Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Sarah xx
