Introducing the Space Busy Book Pattern {PDF}

Hello Friends

You may have noticed a flurry of activity on my Blog and Social media over the past couple of days – I have been having a much needed spring clean of content and tidy up of the layout etc. I hope that it is a much easier to navigate site now which will allow you to access the things you need quicker. I also spent some time looking at the MONSTROUS pile of quilts I have made over the past year and feeling very sorry for them. I have 16 (!!!!!!) on high rotation in our house but some have just been sitting forlornly in my cupboard waiting for their turn to be loved and used. Considering how many more I have coming soon I realised I needed to bite the bullet and list them in my shop so they have the opportunity to go to loving forever homes. This will be a regular thing now and hopefully for those of you still looking for customs you will be able to find something you love ready to ship instead.

With all my spring cleaning I also realised I had some finished patterns sitting ready to be released. These patterns have all featured in magazines and are now out of their contracted period. Be prepared for lots of fun makes coming your way as I get them all polished and shop ready.

First up is this fun cloth counting book. My kids had lots of books like this as babies and toddlers and they were firm favourites for many years as they invented new and wonderful ways to engage with them. I went looking recently for a pattern to make one for a new baby and I couldn’t find anything that fit my bill – so I made my own!

The Space Busy book features 10 counting pages featuring wild and wonderful space characters and icons. It is made using simple applique and, although I chose cotton as my medium, you could easily switch it up and use felt as well. Simple changes could even make it more interactive if needed however I was happy with something without moving parts to lose.

Originally this was released in One Thimble Magazine for their Space themed issue 24 which was jam  packed with amazing makes by super talented designer. I love working with Lucy on magazines although I a ALWAYS the designer running late. Always. Without Fail.

When I sent the pattern to testers I was, as always, ASTOUNDED by their creativity. I love when people take my patterns and recreate them to show versatility – it is wonderful to me. And in this instance they went above and beyond.

Naomi blew me out of the water with her take on the design. She used the templates to create a felt story board for her girls. I am so impressed with her ingenuity. So much so I am going to share a million pics because I just couldn’t pick one.

Amazing!!

Tsen opted to turn each page into a quilted playmat for a friend’s new baby. I just know this will be a much loved and really appreciated gift. I am so impressed she thought of the idea and then executed it so perfectly.

Kathleen is one of my favourite people in the world and regularly tests for me. She made the book as per the pattern which was lucky as she picked up lots of little errors along the way. I love her applique on this page with the black thread – seriously cute!

The Piccolo Space Busy Book is available right now in my shop. I hope you love it as much as I do. I have a few more coming soon too using different themes – I may be addicted!

Suitable for a confident beginner it teaches the numbers 1-10 through both recognition and counting in a fun and colourful way.
