Why Hello There
This is an exciting night for me because it is my turn on the Tilda Plum Garden blog tour where I can finally share my makes with you and introduce you to my latest pattern – The Piccolo Birdhouse Set. If you have been following along on the tour already you know that the makes have been pretty spectacular, of course I would have expected nothing less from Lauren (Molly & Mama) and Lisa (A Spoonful of Sugar) because both girls are incredibly talented creators with impeccably styling. I can’t wait to see what Sharon (Lilabelle Lane) brings to the tour tomorrow, no doubt it will be equally droolworthy!
I was so excited to get my hands on Tilda’s soon to be released collection Plum Garden because it was love the minute I saw it. I loved the classic feel to it immediately and my creative brain was set on fire with possibilities. I have so many ideas in my head waiting for the right fabric to bring them to life so as soon as the right range is found it sets off an internal snowball effect within minutes. I know not everyone creates this way, but being such a visual person I really need to see that finished product in my head. The minute I laid my eyes on Plum Garden the stars aligned and my Piccolo Birdhouse came into focus very very quickly.
What happened next was what I like to call a creative snowball effect. After making the cushions I felt the pattern needed more and so I immediately set about creating different sized templates for applique. This quickly led to me drafting up a cot quilt pattern and, not content to stop there, a small 6″ hanging lavender sachet arrived next. There in front of me the Piccolo Birdhouse Set was born.
The cot quilt ended up being my showstopper even though it wasn’t created first – so funny how that happens. It is beginner friendly and a lovely quick sew with the applique Birdhouse detail. You could easily make it in a weekend and have it ready for a new baby. It is 42″ square so a lovely size to grow with them from cot to couch.
Tilda really was my perfect companion for this pattern – I can’t imagine many other ranges would have pulled the idea off so cohesively.
I used two different tones of linen for the quilt to coordinate with the Plum Garden range. I always love going back to classic roots especially as these days my work is so varied. A tiny bit of (very wonky hahaha) hand quilting added a lovely artisan detail. I really think I need to work on adding more of those gorgeous little whimsical details to my patterns.
I decided to make four birdhouse cushions so I could show off all the colours in the Plum Garden range. I started off thinking pink would be my favourite but surprisingly by the end the blue and brown and captured my heart completely. I forgot how much I love those colours together and it was lovely to do it in girly fabrics instead of the more traditional masculine stylings.
Doesn’t this make the sweetest cot set. I am so glad I pushed through and made more than one pattern this time.
The lavender sachet was an extra sweet touch to the end. The perfect way to finish off a gift or a lovely small standalone present when more than a thought is needed. This is the second sachet pattern I have done this year and I think it may be becoming a thing for me now. I am loving having them hanging around the place too.
After I had taken this gorgeous garden shots out the front of Miss Gladys on Sea I found the sweetest little vintage corner of Aldinga to take some photos, a little laneway out the back of Cooee Arthouse. There were so many places to pop the sachet for photos I might have ended up going overboard with pics lol. They are too sweet not to share too – I couldn’t pick a favourite.
Now for the best news. After working so hard on the pattern with my gorgeous Testers I have decided to release it not just as a set but as individual makes as well! Purchase all 4 patterns separately or as a bundle for a very special price. Click here to go directly to the patterns.
Thank you so much to 2 Green Zebras for sending me this gorgeous fat quarter bundle to work with – it really made my week to finally bring my birdhouse pattern to life and I hope you all love it as much as I do.
Make sure you visit all the girls on the blog tour – I think it is going to be pretty spectacular!
