You guys I am so excited to finally be sharing this custom quilt with you – I have been sitting on these photos for far too long while I recovered from surgery. It is not only nice to be back on my feet again but also getting stuck into my rather long to do list. The upside of being on forced rest is that I had lots of time to think and plan my work for the next few months. The downside? My creative brain went slightly overboard and now I am staring down the barrel of a rather long list and a house full of fabric ordered in to make it happen. Luckily I am at my happiest when I am working!
When Mandy approached me to make a rag quilt for her in super King size I wont lie, I hesitated. Then she showed me the Jennifer Paganelli fabrics she wanted to use and I knew I had to make it happen. This is by far the largest quilt I have ever made at 275 x 240cm (106″ x 95″) and at some points it was a two man job. Due to the fact it was larger than my actual sewing room I had to make it in pieces and then assemble those at the last minute. The final 275cm seam required my husband to stand behind me and lift the weight of the quilt so I could feed it through the machine without the weight pulling it back. When finished and ready to post she weighed a whopping 6kg (13 pound). Was it worth the effort – hell yes!
If you ever want me to make a quilt for you it is simple – just wave Jennifer Paganellis fabrics in my face, I guarantee I will be unable to resist hahaha! This quilt features her older ranges including Lucky Girl, Crazy Love and Caravelle Arcade. One of the things I adore about her fabrics is that you can mix and match them so well. And it always looks so vibrant and stunning.
Now getting photos of this was a challenge. Our bed had a sleeping husband in it when I went to take photos so the only place to shoot was on Abby’s double bed (poor thing still has a room very much in progress furniture wise). Although it looked gorgeous it hit the floor on both sides and getting the whole effect was hard. Luckily Mandy promised to take photos for me when she safely arrived.
Now you can see her in all her glory – she was made to completely steal the show!
I really love that Mandy had her Piccolo Moonface cushion on the bed too – I sent that to her when I made Braydens rainbow quilt last year – so great to see he is still a loved part of their family.
Now in other news I have decided it is time to start teaching more of my learnt skills to people interested in quilting. So if you are a beginner quilter or interested in learning I am starting my very first sewalong this Sunday. Over the course of the next couple of weeks I will teach you how to cut, piece, quilt and assemble a patchwork pillowsham with french seams. It is such a great way to learn the basics and they make wonderful Christmas presents to boot. So there you have it – a successful custom order, a new sewalong and many other surprises popping up along the way I promise. It may be cold and miserable here today but you cant wipe the satisfied smile off my face.
