Playing with Sloth by Trosko Designs

So a few weeks ago I answered a call out for a modern quilt from the powerhouse Nerida Hansen of Nerida Hansen Print and Textiles. Nerida has recently burst onto the fabric scene with her brand and represents some truly talented designers from all over the world. Nerida speaks proudly of her passion for helping independent artisans receive recognition for the talent and hard work, especially within in the Australian industry. As a result she is building a business that has a strong work ethic and reputation. There is something dynamic and exciting about both her vision and her execution and I hope to work with her regularly going forward on as many projects as I can. You can view the incredible designers involved and shop their fabrics here.

The first fabric collection sent to me was Sloth by Trosko. The brainchild of Solvejg Makaretz from Maine in the United States it is clear to see the strong Scandinavian influence in the range and I loved the simplicity of both colour and design. What is more exciting is this range was exclusively developed for Spotlight Stores here in Australia. The sloths are so sweet and the inclusion of sweet ducks and a simple leaf print made for some added interest and fun. There are only a few fabrics in the range so I opted for a super simple quilt design, making sawtooth star blocks. Incidentally this was my first time making these blocks and I loved them, I think they showed off the fabric perfectly.

To quilt I decided to go really modern and decided on straight lines that were only 1″ apart. I backed the quilt in that awesome aqua sloth print and bound in the navy leaf. Modern, clean, simple and perfect for a nursery.

I was having so much fun playing with the fabric and sawtooth star block I didnt stop there. I had to make a matching floor pillow cover. Also quilted in a 1″ grid pattern it is designed to fit a standard Euro insert (25×25″) for ease of washing and replacement. I love this size cushion so much, they end up being used anywhere and everywhere. And how great does it look with the quilt!

Next up was a simple photo shoot. All white background, chair and sheepskin. No need to do much else when the fabric is all the wow factor you need.

I really loved creating with this range. I rarely get the opportunity to work with unisex ranges so this was a pure delight from start to finish.
