Luca’s nursery

Rag quilts – the most underestimated quilts in the world. Well in my humble opinion anyway. They are soft, easy care and guaranteed to get better with age. Backed in flannel they are super snuggly and they are designed to be used and loved. Quilts don’t always need to be about art and sometimes simple really is a great way to go, especially when a new baby is involved. My rag quilts take me longer than a traditional patchwork quilt not only because of all those tiny little cuts along the seams. I have perfected my process over the past few years and that means that the end result is a really neat finish, I am happy for the extra hours that means I have to put in. And the best bit – they do better when washed and thrown in a dryer – that is what gives the lovely vinty softness over time so that means we have a completely practical quilt that still looks gorgeous. That is a major win in my book. www.piccolostudio.com.au

For Luca’s quilt her lovely mum Kayla chose Tilda fabrics, an older range called Country Escape which is soft and oh so pretty. It isn’t so easy to get in Australia right now but it was definitely worth the hunt. I backed in pink flannel which you can see sneaking through the front in the rag. A name cushion with hot pink detail added to the set and the end result is just gorgeous.

So one more gorgeous nursery set has left the building and I am happy to say it arrived to a happy home where baby Luca had made a safe but early appearance. Welcome to the world sweet girl, may you always shine brightly in it.
