Sophie’s Quilt – Hotel Frederiksted

Its Fri-yay!

Not when you are a mum that makes a huge amount of difference but it is nice to feel I am celebrating with the rest of the world, even if it is just a bowl of doritos and a cup of peppermint tea lol.

Now I have a LOT of photos to show you and I mean a LOT! You know how I always bang on about wishing I could improve my photo taking skills? Well problem solved guys – I asked talented local photographer Angela Lisman to accompany me to a photo shoot for my recent quilt – the result is that you are going to see a LOT of photos because I could not choose my favourites, she really is that good!

One of my most favourite things to do in the world is work with the amazing fabrics designed by Jennifer Paganelli, the woman is a legend in matching colour and pattern and doing amazing things with both. Her latest range Hotel Frederiksted is no exception and I think it is my favourite so far. I love jewel colours and florals, throw in birds and I am in quilty heaven!

Now as far as my inspiration for this quilt went you may recognise the name Sophie from the awesome book, The BFG. I went and saw the movie recently and fell madly in love with the quilt Sophie had draped around her shoulders, so much so I started googling for it right there in the cinema! There was not a lot of info on line so with the help of some friends, namely Jade, we managed some screen shots from the movie itself which I used to make a pattern up. I am not a traditional quilter by any means so this was a huge push for me but I always promised Jennifer if she trusted me with her fabric that I would work really hard for her and push myself creatively. This was my most pushy so far.

Something else I always do when photographing these quilts is  pick a gorgeous part of my region as a back drop. So far I have done beach and winery, this time the gorgeous Kaitpo forest came calling. I wanted something a bit dark and reminiscent of the BFG but not themey if that makes sense. Luckily Angela got me straight away and produced the most amazing shots using my daughter Hannah as the model.

You will see a pretty damn adorable bunny in the shoot too. That is the very clever work of Tabatha from Rhapsody & Thread – a very talented handmaiden as you can see. I sent the fabric and she worked her magic.  You can find her on instagram under the name rhapsodyandthread – wait until you see the unicorns!

And so lets be honest – you dont want to hear much more from me – it is all about the photos of course! Without further ado may I please introduce Sophie’s Quilt – I hope you love her.

Now to be fair I did warn you there were a lot of photos and you can see why it has been so hard for me to choose – they are all so so gorgeous.

For the last part of the morning I pulled out 3 Christmas stockings I had made in the range and Angela and I found the sweetest wee tree which she decorated with fairy lights and ornaments. As you can see it is the perfect range for Christmas too – like there was ever any doubt!

I could go on for hours about this divine range but in this instance I really believe the photos do all the talking for me. How lucky was I to get to play with this beautiful fabric – I can only hope that my future as part of Sisboom’s team is very very bright.

This quilt is perfect in every way. Is there/or will there be a pattern for it?

I saw the film with my kids yesterday, and I was mesmerized with the quilt – I guess everyone who makes quilts like me fell in love with it! Your version is absolutely gorgeous! 🙂 Congratulations! Is the pattern available? I would love to make one. Greetings from Hungary: Agnes
